The Page of Wands upright meaning
A young man stands in a dry desert with three pyramid-shaped mounds behind him. He holds a tall wand upright with both hands and gazes at its sprouting top. His yellow tunic is patterned with black salamanders, and a red feather rises from his hat. The sky is a clear, pale blue.
Pages are messengers and learners. Upright, the Page of Wands means curiosity, enthusiasm and good news. Waite showed him in the act of proclamation and linked him to messages and a faithful young messenger. It is the early stage of a passion, full of energy but not yet tested. The card asks you to explore, ask questions and try things without needing to be an expert.
A real-life example: someone watches a pottery video and books a beginner class the next day. They make lopsided bowls, laugh about it and sign up for the next session. That eager, playful start is The Page of Wands.
The Page of Wands reversed meaning
Reversed, the Page of Wands can mean impatience, scattered energy or ideas that never get started. It can also point to delayed news, or a young person who is restless or acting out.
- Signs: jumping between hobbies, losing interest after the first try, or waiting on news that is slow to come.
- What may help: give one new interest a fair test of a few weeks, and keep a notebook of ideas instead of starting them all at once.

How we made this page
Written and edited by the Centaurus team. We aim to be clear about what is tradition, what is our own reading, and what is fact.
How it works
We describe the card in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, give a plain meaning for upright and reversed, then add love, career and yes/no readings. The quiz and reflection tools are for thinking, and nothing you type is saved or sent.
Sources and background
- Imagery and symbols: the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, drawn by Pamela Colman Smith for A.E. Waite (1909).
- Meanings: informed by A.E. Waite, The Pictorial Key to the Tarot (1911, public domain) and modern teaching, then written in our own plain words.
- Astrology links follow the Golden Dawn system. Other systems assign different signs and planets, and we say so on the page.
- Yes or no rule on this site: every card leans Yes, Not yet, No or Maybe, and reversed cards shift one step more cautious.
