Judgement in one minute

Good or bad?Mostly good. It brings a wake-up and a fresh start.
As a personSomeone reflective, or a call to take stock of your life.
As adviceReview your past honestly, forgive and answer the call.
As a warningHarsh self-judgement, or ignoring a call you already feel.
How to remember it: An angel blows a trumpet and people rise from their coffins. It is a wake-up call, not a punishment.

Judgement upright meaning

Judgement shows an angel blowing a trumpet in the sky, and people rising from their graves with their arms open. It is a scene of rebirth and renewal. In the Major Arcana, it comes near the end of the journey, when you look back and answer a deeper calling.

Upright, Judgement means reflection, a reckoning and a fresh start. You may be seeing your life clearly for the first time, forgiving yourself or others, and feeling called toward something more meaningful.

A real-life example: someone looks back on a decade in a job that no longer fits. They forgive themselves for staying so long and decide to retrain. That is Judgement.

Common mistake: Reading it as punishment or Judgement Day. It is about awakening and forgiveness.

Judgement reversed meaning

Reversed, Judgement points to self-doubt, harsh self-judgement or ignoring a call you feel. You may be stuck in regret, or avoiding a decision you know you need to make.

  • Signs: harsh self-criticism, regret, ignoring your inner voice or fear of change.
  • What may help: forgive yourself for past mistakes and take one small step toward the change you feel called to.

Judgement in love and relationships

If you’re in a relationship

A relationship renewed after honest reflection, or a clear decision about whether to move on. Forgiveness is a big theme. Reversed, old resentment or avoiding a hard conversation.

If you’re single

You are letting go of past hurts and ready to love again. You are clear about what you want. Reversed, regret or self-blame is holding you back.

Judgement in career and money

A calling or a career change, a performance review or a big decision. For money, review the past and make a fresh plan. Reversed, ignoring a calling or fear of change.

Judgement as a yes or no answer

On this site every card follows one rule. Judgement upright leans yes: it is a time for a clear, honest decision. Reversed, it leans not yet: the timing is off or the support is blocked, so wait and look again. This is a guide for reflection, not a prediction. How we made this page

Written and edited by the Centaurus team. We aim to be clear about what is tradition, what is our own reading, and what is fact.

How it works

We describe the card in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, give a plain meaning for upright and reversed, then add love, career and yes/no readings. The quiz and reflection tools are for thinking, and nothing you type is saved or sent.

Sources and background

  • Imagery and symbols: the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, drawn by Pamela Colman Smith for A.E. Waite (1909).
  • Meanings: informed by A.E. Waite, The Pictorial Key to the Tarot (1911, public domain) and modern teaching, then written in our own plain words.
  • Astrology links follow the Golden Dawn system. Other systems assign different signs and planets, and we say so on the page.
  • Yes or no rule on this site: every card leans Yes, Not yet, No or Maybe, and reversed cards shift one step more cautious.

What this page cannot do

Tarot cannot predict the future, and a card does not decide what you should do. Decks and readers differ, so meanings vary. It is not medical, legal, financial or mental-health advice.
