What each position means
- 1The heart of it. What this decision is really about underneath the details.
- 2Option A. The energy and likely direction if you choose the first option.
- 3Option B. The energy and likely direction if you choose the second option.
- 4What you are not seeing. A hidden factor, a blind spot or a feeling you have been ignoring.
- 5Advice. The best attitude to bring to the choice, whichever way you go.
How to lay out and read it
- Name your two options out loud or write them down. Decide which one is A and which is B before you shuffle.
- Shuffle and lay card 1 in the middle at the top.
- Place Option A on the left and Option B on the right.
- Lay card 4 below the middle and card 5 at the bottom.
- Compare A and B, then let cards 4 and 5 shape how you decide.
Example reading
Say you are choosing between staying in your job (A) or starting a course (B). You draw the Two of Swords as the heart of it, the Four of Pentacles for staying, the Eight of Pentacles for the course, The Moon for what you are not seeing and Strength as advice. The story: you are avoiding the choice. Staying feels safe but tight, while the course means hard work that builds real skill. Fear is clouding the picture, and the advice is to act with quiet courage.

Tips for a clearer reading
- Always decide which option is A and which is B before you draw. Otherwise it is easy to read the cards the way you hoped.
- No card makes the decision for you. Use the reading to notice how you feel about each option.
- If both options look similar, card 4 and the advice card matter most.
- If you have three options, add a third card in the option row.

Questions about the decision tarot spread
Can tarot help me make a decision?+
Tarot can help you see a choice more clearly and notice your own feelings about it. It should never replace practical facts, advice from people you trust or professional advice for medical, legal or money matters.
What if both options look bad?+
That is useful information too. It may mean neither path feels right yet, or that the real issue is in card 1 or card 4. Sometimes the best choice is a third option you have not considered.
Can I use this spread for more than two options?+
Yes. Add one card in the option row for each extra choice. Keep it to three or four options so the reading stays clear.
What is a yes or no tarot reading?+
It is a single-card reading for quick yes, no or maybe answers. For a simple question, try our free yes/no tarot reading. For a real choice between two paths, this decision spread gives you more to think about.
Tarot is a tool for reflection and entertainment. It cannot predict the future and is not a substitute for professional advice. Cards are drawn at random in your browser, and nothing you type is saved or sent.
