What each position means

  1. 1
You. How you are showing up in this connection right now: your feelings, hopes and habits.
  2. 2
Them. How the other person is showing up. Remember this is a reflection, not mind reading.
  3. 3
What connects you. The strength of the bond. What draws you together and keeps you close.
  4. 4
What challenges you. The friction or the lesson. What needs talking about or working on.
  5. 5
Where it can go. The direction the connection is moving in, and its potential if you both act on it.

How to lay out and read it

  1. Think of the person or the relationship. If you are single, ask about your love life in general.
  2. Shuffle and lay card 3 in the middle, card 1 on the left and card 2 on the right.
  3. Place card 5 above the middle card and card 4 below it.
  4. Read You and Them first, then the middle line from bottom to top: challenge, connection, potential.
  5. Look for Cups (feelings), Major Arcana (bigger lessons) and reversed cards (blocked energy).

Example reading

Say you ask about a new relationship. You draw the Page of Cups for you, the Knight of Pentacles for them, the Two of Cups for what connects you, the Eight of Swords for the challenge and The Sun for where it can go. The story: you are open and a little dreamy, they are steady and slow to move, and the mutual attraction is real. The challenge is worry and feeling stuck in your own head. If you speak up instead of overthinking, the potential is warm and happy.

Tips for a clearer reading

  • The cards describe energy, not the other person's private thoughts. Use the Them card as a prompt for a real conversation.
  • A challenging card in position 4 is normal. Every relationship has a growing edge.
  • If you are single, read card 2 as the kind of person or energy coming toward you.
  • Do not repeat the reading to get a different answer. Sit with the first one for a few days.

Questions about the love tarot spread

What is the best tarot spread for love?+
A five-card love spread like this one is a good balance. It covers both people, the bond, the challenge and the potential, without being hard to remember. For a quick check, use the three-card layout You, them and the relationship.
Can tarot tell me if someone loves me?+
Tarot can reflect the energy around a connection and help you think it through, but it cannot read another person's mind. The clearest answer always comes from talking to them.
Which tarot cards are good signs in love?+
The Lovers, the Two of Cups, the Ten of Cups, The Sun and the Ace of Cups are among the warmest love cards. A single card never decides a reading, so always read it in its position.
Can I do a love reading if I am single?+
Yes. Ask about your love life in general. Read the Them card as the energy coming toward you, and the connection card as what you most need from a partner.
